Thoughts on Success

by Crystal N on September 23, 2008

I’ve signed up for Jeff Smith’s ‘10 day turnaround‘ and really started thinking hard about a few things while he works up for the start. His post today was around defining success. I posted a comment but thought I’d re-share it here, with a bit more thought thrown in.

There’s a quote I used to love, but which I’ve changed my mind about these last 3 days since he’s got me thinking:
“Success is getting what you want, Happiness is liking what you get”.
While I still think that’s true for a lot of people, I think that’s also more of a definition of what people think would make OTHERS believe they were successful.

Now, my personal view of success is more based around doing what I want, than having it.
A successful day for me is going to bed knowing I’ve lived the day to it’s fullest, touched lives in a positive way, and grown beyond what I was the day before.
A successful life would be one where I’ve journeyed from goal to goal, achieved things that matter to others as well as myself, and had (hopefully many) more successful days than otherwise.

What’s success to you?
