All this talk of the Secret has got me reminiscing, so I decided to share some of my earliest experiences in manifesting, or creating my own reality.
The very first time I remember making the link between wanting and having, I was a broke University student living in share accommodation. This was back in the early 90s, and they had just invented this cool new gadget called the Epilady. I hated shaving (still do) so anything that offered to make that redundant was SO attractive. I wanted it. Badly. But it was well over $100, and back then, to someone living on Austudy (government assistance) it was all but impossible. Still, I dreamt. No idea why, but I wouldn’t let go of the image of it. Maybe it was because ads for it were all over the place, and the more I saw it, the more I wanted it. Who knows?
Then, one day, out of the blue I decided to go for a walk after dinner. This being Sydney, it’s not something you tend to do, for safety’s sake, but I talked one of my housemates into coming along and off we went. It was about half an hour before dusk, so there was still a fair bit of light. I decided I wanted to explore in a direction I hadn’t gone before, although that’s unusual too – usually one of the first things I did when I moved house was to explore the neighbourhood (and find all the shortcuts).
Half way down one street, there was a pile of boxes and bins out. The place was empty, they’d moved, but left a lot of junk awaiting pickup. My housemate was looking for a couple of things for his room, so he dived in (University students resemble seagulls a lot that way) and called for me to help. I looked in one of the boxes on top, and sure enough, in the box, right at the top, was a packaged up Epilady. I couldn’t believe it. It had been opened, but didn’t look like it had been used, had all the attachments, the power cord, everything.
It felt like Christmas!
