Lost my Wordpress Admin Interface

by Crystal on December 27, 2008

There’s nothing quite so panic-ridden as thinking you’ve just broken your website. Or thinking that Wordpress 2.7 has broken it.

I made one little change to a page in the theme, caused an error, and all of a sudden I couldn’t get my admin interface to work, let alone get back in to fix it! It looked very scary with text only going ten miles deep into the page. I was sure I’d broken it.

Luckily, I was able to ftp in to delete the new lines and put the file back to it’s original state, but that still didn’t bring the 2.7 admin interface back. I may only had a few new posts since the last backup, but that’s not the point…

Anyway, I hunted down a solution. No, re-installing 2.7 didn’t fix it. Obviously, fixing the error didn’t either. The one fix I did find (and it worked) was to close down my admin page, open the public blog, go to a single entry, and click the ‘edit’ link.

I think the next suburb over must have heard my sigh of relief! At the very least a couple of streets away.

[Update] I’ve been getting a lot of comments in Russian about this, so I decided I’d add the google translate feature here for anyone else that was interested.

Почему на блоге так мало тем про кризис, Вас этот вопрос не волнует?

Google Translate: Why do so few blog themes about crisis, you do not care about this issue?

I have written about the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) in several of my posts, but my belief is that the crisis is not so much because of actual circumstances, as it is about people’s fear. The more posts that get written to feed that fear, the bigger the crisis will get. So, I try to stay positive and empowered in what I write. On a personal level, I fight the crisis by choosing to take ownership and control of my own life – regardless of what the world throws at us, we always have the choice to find a way to use it to make our lives better. Hopefully, you choose to do the same – but that’s entirely your choice.
Best Wishes, Crystal

Почитал, улыбнуло :) А может и реально всегда думать исключительно о хорошем, а все плохое отбрасывать?

Google Translate: Read, smiling :) And can actually always think only about good and bad to throw away everything?
